Our client, a leading international consumer-focused business, is looking to appoint an experienced Competition Lawyer to join its growing EU legal team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-moving, commercially driven B2C environment where competition law is a key component of strategic decision-making across European markets.
The Role:
Working closely with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams, you will advise on a broad range of Belgian and EU competition law matters, supporting high-profile commercial initiatives and strategic projects across the business. The role offers significant exposure to complex behavioural competition issues and the opportunity to work in a collaborative, international environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on EU competition law matters, with a strong emphasis on abuse of dominance, as well as horizontal and vertical agreements
- Support the business on complex behavioural competition law issues arising across multiple European jurisdictions
- Develop and implement practical, risk-based competition compliance programmes tailored to a consumer-facing business
- Advise on distribution structures, pricing strategies, e-commerce models, and commercial partnerships
- Collaborate closely with legal, regulatory, compliance, and commercial teams to provide commercially focused and pragmatic advice
- Manage relationships with external counsel and liaise with competition authorities where appropriate
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments in EU competition law and assess business impact
Candidate Profile
- Qualified lawyer with approximately 8–12 years’ PQE and strong competition law experience gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house legal team
- Significant and demonstrable experience advising on abuse of dominance matters is essential
- Strong expertise in EU competition law and familiarity with Belgian competition law frameworks
- Experience advising on merger control and the competition aspects of M&A transactions
- Proven ability to design and implement effective compliance programmes and internal training initiatives
- Commercially minded with the ability to provide clear, practical, and business-oriented legal advice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience operating in an international business environment
- Fluency in English required and another European language would be advantageous
