Your mission:
As ESG & Impact Officer, you will be part of a four-person team responsible for managing ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), impact, and Technical Assistance within EDFI MC's investment process. Under the supervision of the ESG & Impact Manager, your main role will be to assess and manage the ESG and impact dimensions — both ex-ante and ex-post — of private debt and equity investments across companies, infrastructure projects, financial institutions, and funds. You will interact with multiple departments including Investment, Portfolio, Technical Assistance, Legal, and Finance.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform in depth ESG and impact analysis in the investment cycle for debt and (quasi-)equity high risk investments, in sectors such as mining, infrastructure, large scale agribusiness or forestry ;
- Manage independent E&S consultants’ scope of work, output, and their monitoring;
- Monitor, advise and support portfolio companies on the implementation of their ESG management system and action plans;
- Optimize EDFI MC’s ESG & Impact management policies, process and tools, and ensure compliance therewith;
- Facilitate third-party ESG and impact assessments / evaluations of investments;
- Contribute to dissemination efforts (EDFI MC's Impact Report, internal presentations, annual ESG reports to the European Commission, case studies, etc.).
- Represent EDFI MC in sector level initiatives and conferences related to ESG and impact.
Profile and requirements:
Education & professional experience
- Master’s degree in Economics, International development, Political Science, Environmental Sciences or related field;
- 3-7 years of professional experience in Development Finance Institutions, ESG consulting, or impact investors;
Technical skills & personal attributes
- Demonstrated experience applying IFC Performance Standards in high-risk projects.
- Experience working in or with developing and emerging market contexts.
- Strong command of ESG risk assessment methodologies, ESMS evaluation, and impact measurement frameworks (OPIM, SDGs, theory of change).
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI or equivalent); experience with the Joint Impact Model (JIM) is an asset.
- Ability to independently draft high-quality written outputs in English (investment papers, monitoring reports, stakeholder communications).
- Expertise in mining, renewable energy, or agriculture is an asset.
Languages
- Excellent written and spoken English (mandatory).
- French and/or Spanish is a significant asset.

- Willingness to travel for site visits as required.
- Location: Brussels.
- Candidates must be legally authorised to work in Belgium.
