Freelance Senior Accounting & Tax Partner (Interim)
What the Project is About
The organisation recently outsourced part of its accounting operations and now requires an experienced finance professional to stabilise and optimise the collaboration model with the external accounting provider. The consultant will play a key role in ensuring continuity, compliance, and financial accuracy across Belgian and French entities during the transition period.
This is a highly operational role requiring strong General Ledger ownership, VAT/tax expertise, and close coordination with auditors and external tax/accounting partners.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee General Ledger activities across multiple legal entities
- Coordinate and validate accounting operations performed by external accounting partners
- Act as the key finance contact between internal stakeholders and outsourced finance providers
- Supervise and support AR/AP related accounting flows from a GL perspective
- Ensure compliance with Belgian GAAP, French GAAP, VAT regulations, and applicable international accounting standards
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Support VAT declarations, tax reporting, reconciliations, and statutory filings
- Collaborate closely with external auditors and tax advisors during audit cycles
- Identify accounting inconsistencies, process gaps, and compliance risks during the transition phase
- Contribute to process improvements and documentation to support long-term finance stability
- Provide hands-on operational support where needed rather than acting purely at management level
Requirements for the Candidate
Experience
- 10–15+ years of experience in accounting, tax, or finance operations within international environments
- Strong expertise in General Ledger accounting and VAT/tax compliance
- Proven experience working with outsourced or shared-service accounting structures
- Experience preparing statutory accounts and supporting external audits
- Comfortable operating in hands-on interim or project-driven environments
- Experience with Belgian and/or French accounting regulations is essential
Technical & Functional Skills
- Strong knowledge of BE GAAP (with FR GAAP knowledge being a strong plus)
- IFRS knowledge is considered a bonus.
- Advanced Excel and ERP exposure required
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders
