As a Freelance Business Controller, you will support senior management by providing financial insights, performance analysis, and business-oriented reporting. You will act as a strategic finance partner, helping the business improve profitability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

This role is well-suited for an experienced freelance controller who enjoys working closely with leadership and non-finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

• Prepare and analyse monthly management reports (P&L, margins, KPIs)
• Monitor revenue, cost structures, and profitability by service line or client segment
• Provide clear insights and recommendations to management

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Support budgeting and rolling forecast processes
• Analyse variances between budget, forecast, and actuals
• Build financial models and scenarios to support growth and pricing decisions

Business Partnering

• Act as a sparring partner to management, sales, and operations
• Translate financial data into actionable business insights
• Support decision-making related to staffing levels, pricing, and investments

Process & Performance Improvement

• Improve financial reporting, dashboards, and KPIs
• Review cost controls and operational efficiency
• Support implementation or optimisation of financial tools and systems

Compliance & Cash Flow

• Monitor cash flow, invoicing, and working capital (important in HR services)
• Ensure alignment with Belgian accounting practices and internal policies
• Liaise with external accountants or advisors if required

Profile & Experience

Background

• Proven experience as a Business Controller, Finance Manager, or Finance Consultant
• Experience within HR services, staffing, consultancy, or service-based businesses is strongly preferred
• Comfortable operating in a growing, entrepreneurial environment

Technical Skills

• Strong financial analysis and modelling skills
• Advanced Excel; experience with ERP or HR/payroll-linked finance systems is a plus
• Solid understanding of margin-based and people-driven business models

Languages

• Dutch: fluent
• English: professional working level
• French is a plus
