Java Software Engineer (Backend) – Antwerp (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)

We are working with an innovative software company transforming the recruitment industry through cutting-edge technology and data-driven solutions. Their platform empowers recruiters and organisations to connect with talent more efficiently, using intelligent search, automation, AI and Data Analytics and scalable backend systems. As they continue to grow, they are looking for a skilled Java Software Engineer to join their collaborative product team.

The Role

As a Backend Java Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the core services that power our platform. You’ll work within a close-knit product team of six engineers, contributing to high-impact features and helping shape the technical direction of our systems.

This is a hybrid role based in Antwerp, with three days per week onsite in our modern office.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring
• Build and optimise APIs and microservices to support product features
• Work with Elasticsearch to deliver powerful search and data retrieval capabilities
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers
• Contribute to architectural decisions and continuous improvement of the platform
• Ensure code quality through testing, code reviews, and best practices
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance and scalability challenges

Requirements

• Proven experience as a backend software engineer, with strong Java expertise
• Solid experience with Spring / Spring Boot
• Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch or similar search technologies
• Understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems
• Familiarity with cloud environments and modern development practices (CI/CD, containerisation)
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, agile team environment
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Nice to Have

• Experience in SaaS or recruitment technology platforms
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or similar tools
• Exposure to data modelling and performance optimisation
