Mainframe Developer

Role Overview

You will join an agile mainframe team within an insurance environment, contributing to the technical analysis, development, component testing, bug fixing, and production support of a mainframe/CICS-based application used for managing insurance policies, claims, and finance processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate within an agile team to deliver robust and high-quality solutions
• Translate business and technical requirements into reliable mainframe development
• Develop and maintain software in COBOL V5 on IBM z/OS
• Work with and reuse existing technical components within the mainframe architecture
• Perform technical analysis, implementation, and quality assurance testing
• Document developed solutions according to internal standards
• Actively contribute to continuous improvement and agile practices
• Support bug fixing and application stability in production environments

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in COBOL programming
• Strong experience with IBM mainframe environments (z/OS)
• Solid knowledge of VSAM, batch processing, JCL, and SDSF
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Accurate, structured, and solution-oriented working style
• Ability to take ownership within sprint deliverables
• Strong communication skills and team collaboration mindset
• Hands-on approach with a commitment to delivery quality

Nice to Have

• Experience with CICS
• Knowledge of insurance business processes and flows
• Experience with modern development tooling (e.g., RDz)

Languages

• Dutch: Native level
• French: Basic knowledge
• English: Very good spoken and written proficiency
• German: Not required
