Freelance Legal Counsel (Commercial Law)

For a customer in Brussels, we are searching for a pragmatic and business-oriented freelance Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial Law) to act as a trusted legal partner for the commercial business, with a strong focus on purchasing and commercial contracts relating to products sold in stores and through e-commerce channels.

You will support both B2B and B2C activities and work closely with internal stakeholders including purchasing, marketing, e-commerce, logistics, and operational teams. The role combines advisory work, contract drafting and negotiation, project support, and dispute management in a fast-paced retail environment.

This position requires someone who is able to work independently, prioritize effectively, and provide clear, practical legal advice aligned with business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide variety of commercial agreements, with a strong focus on purchasing and supplier contracts
• Advise Marketing on legal aspects relating to products sold in physical stores and through e-commerce platforms
• Support both B2B and B2C commercial activities, including promotional campaigns and consumer-facing communications
• Act as the day-to-day legal contact for the marketing team, including reviewing advertising materials, promotional folders, disclaimers, campaigns, and customer communications
• Provide practical legal advice on commercial, consumer protection, and contractual matters
• Support strategic and operational projects by identifying and assessing legal risks and proposing pragmatic solutions
• Handle legal queries from internal stakeholders in a timely and business-oriented manner
• Assist in dispute management and litigation matters, coordinating with external counsel where necessary
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and compliance practices
• Work cross-functionally with teams including procurement, e-commerce, logistics, warehousing, operations, and finance

Profile

• Master’s degree in Law
• Several years of relevant experience as a legal counsel, preferably with strong exposure to commercial law
• Previous in-house experience is essential
• Strong experience in drafting and negotiating commercial and purchasing contracts
• Familiarity with e-commerce, consumer law, and B2B/B2C commercial matters
• Ability to work autonomously and manage matters independently from start to finish
• Pragmatic mindset with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Comfortable operating in a dynamic and fast-moving business environment
• Experience in retail, logistics, warehousing, or FMCG sectors is considered a strong advantage, but is not mandatory
