The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Health and Safety Officer for a live electrical substation project in Mons.
This is a site-first role. You’ll be embedded in the project, working alongside engineers, supervisors and subcontractors to ensure work is planned, controlled and executed safely in a high-risk environment.
You’ll be visible, present, and influential — not just monitoring safety, but actively shaping how work is delivered across the site.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carrying out daily site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Leading inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings
- Ensuring compliance with Belgian HSE legislation and Designer Group standards
- Monitoring high-risk activities including:
- High-voltage (HV) electrical works
- Lifting operations
- Temporary works and access systems
- Reviewing RAMS, method statements, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
- Investigating incidents and near misses, implementing corrective actions
- Maintaining permits, safety records, and inspection logs
- Supporting emergency planning and response drills
- Driving a proactive, accountable safety culture across all contractors
What We’re Looking For
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- NEBOSH or equivalent recognised certification
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience on construction, energy, or M&E projects
- Experience in substation, HV, or infrastructure environments is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of European safety standards and compliance requirements
- Confident communicator who can challenge and influence behaviours on site
- Practical, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail

- Competitive base salary
- €1,400 net monthly subsistence allowance
- Rotation (typically 10/4 or project dependent)
