About the Opportunity

We’re partnering with a dynamic, internationally oriented organization in Brussels that is scaling rapidly and investing in best-in-class finance operations. They’re looking for a high-performing Freelance AP Accountant to step in and make an immediate impact—streamlining processes, ensuring accuracy, and supporting a fast-paced finance team.

This is not a “business-as-usual” AP role—you’ll play a key part in optimizing workflows, collaborating cross-functionally, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end Accounts Payable cycle (invoice processing, approvals, payments)
• Ensure timely and accurate invoice booking in compliance with local GAAP and company policies
• Handle vendor reconciliations and resolve discrepancies proactively
• Prepare and execute payment runs (SEPA & international payments)
• Support month-end close activities (accruals, AP reporting, aging analysis)
• Act as a key point of contact for suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
• Ensure VAT compliance and proper documentation

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as an AP Accountant / Accounts Payable Specialist (5+ years preferred)
• Strong knowledge of Belgian accounting standards and VAT rules
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
• Excellent attention to detail with a solution-oriented mindset
• Ability to work independently and hit the ground running
• Strong communication skills in English (French and/or Dutch is a big plus)
• Based in or able to work in Brussels (hybrid flexibility available)
