Java Consultant

We are supporting a consultancy delivering large-scale digital and application modernisation programmes within a highly regulated public sector environment in Brussels. For a long-term engagement, we are looking for a Medior Java Full-Stack Developer to join a client team focused on evolving critical platforms and ways of working.

This role combines hands-on development with the opportunity to influence how solutions are designed and delivered – challenging legacy approaches and helping teams adopt more modern engineering practices.

Logistics

• Role: Freelance Medior Java Full-Stack Developer
• Contract: Long-term (12+ months)
• Location: Belgium (Hybrid)
• Languages: English + French or Dutch
• Start Date: ASAP / Flexible
• Rate: Strongly competitive

Responsibilities

• Design and develop applications using Java and Spring Boot
• Work across the full stack, including Angular-based frontends
• Contribute to new builds and the evolution of existing systems
• Challenge existing technical approaches and suggest improvements
• Support and guide a small team of developers
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver practical, scalable solutions
• Ensure quality through testing, CI/CD, and best practices

Required Skills

• Strong experience with Java (Spring Boot) in a medior/senior capacity
• Full-stack experience including Angular
• Experience with microservices and REST APIs
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes environments
• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence decisions
• Experience in structured environments (public sector preferred)

Nice to Have

• Experience within regulated or enterprise environments
• Exposure to private cloud environments
• Experience with testing frameworks
• Previous mentoring or leadership experience
