PATENT LITIGATION ASSOCIATE LAWYER - BELGIUM - LEADING INTERNATIONAL LAW FIRM

Associate Patent Litigation Lawyer (1-5 Years PQE) – Brussels

Our client is a premier international intellectual property law firm with a commanding presence across Europe. Renowned for handling the most complex, high-stakes patent disputes, the firm’s Brussels office is a hub for international excellence in life sciences, electronics, and telecommunications litigation.

This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious associate to join a "straight-talking and straight-shooting" team dedicated exclusively to IP and regulatory law. You will work alongside some of the "brilliant strategists" in the field on groundbreaking cross-border cases, including pivotal matters before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) .

The Role

As a Patent Litigation Associate, you will be integral to the firm’s contentious practice, taking on high levels of responsibility in a collaborative, multinational environment.

  • Complex Litigation: Draft pleadings, develop case strategies, and manage evidence for multi-jurisdictional patent infringement and revocation proceedings.
  • Strategic Advice: Advise high-profile global clients—particularly in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and tech sectors—on patent portfolio strength, freedom-to-operate, and regulatory issues.
  • UPC Practice: Participate in pioneering cases within the burgeoning UPC system, leveraging the firm’s early-mover advantage in this jurisdiction.
  • Team Collaboration: Work seamlessly with specialized patent attorneys and lawyers across international offices to deliver unified legal and technical solutions.

The Candidate

  • Experience: 1–5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in intellectual property, with a primary focus on patent litigation.
  • Qualifications: Qualified to practice law in Belgium. A technical background (e.g., MSc or PhD in Life Sciences, Chemistry, or Engineering) is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Languages: Native-level fluency in Dutch and/or French, with excellent professional-grade English (C1/C2 level).
  • Attributes: A "pioneering mentality" with the ability to translate complex technical innovations into clear legal arguments.
