Overview

An opportunity has arisen within a highly regulated insurance firm for a 2nd Line Operational Risk Associate to join a collaborative team based in Brussels. The role has been open for some time and forms part of a broader effort to strengthen operational risk capability following recent team changes.

Role Summary

This position sits within a 2nd line risk function with a focus on operational risk across European jurisdictions within an EU-regulated framework. The successful candidate will support oversight of operational processes, controls, and risk management activities across the business.

The role would be particularly well suited to candidates with experience in insurance or wider financial services environments , especially those operating within regulated settings.

The team is small and collaborative, consisting of three Operational Risk Associates, one additional Risk Associate, and an EY consultant providing interim support.

Key Responsibilities

• Support 2nd line oversight of operational risk across business processes and activities
• Review and challenge operational controls and risk frameworks
• Contribute to governance, reporting, and risk oversight across EU jurisdictions
• Support operational resilience and third-party risk activities where relevant
• Engage with stakeholders across the business in a collaborative and supportive manner

Candidate Profile

• 2–5 years’ experience in financial services or a highly regulated environment
• Insurance sector experience is strongly preferred
• Experience in 2nd line operational risk is highly desirable
• Candidates with 2–3 years relevant 2nd line experience will also be considered
• Strong understanding of operational risk, controls, and process governance
• Exposure to operational resilience, DORA, or third-party risk is a strong advantage
• Banking and broader financial services backgrounds are also suitable
