As such, Stukwerkers can be considered as the oldest stevedoring company in the Port of Ghent, and is certainly amongst the oldest in Europe. In 1869 the Société Coopérative 'De Stukwerkers' were organised and in 1948 the Stukwerkers Havenbedrijf nv were established as an independent limited liability company, remaining so up to this day. At present, Stukwerkers Havenbedrijf nv can be ranked among the leading stevedoring companies in the country, and is one of the most important and most diversified in the Port of Ghent, both in respect of the goods handled and in the location of our waterbound terminals and warehouses.
